Players start in a cryopod after several months of cryosleep.
A variety of puzzles are used throughout, such as severing a hand from a destroyed cryopod in order to pass through a fingerprint scanner.
Hints at something bad happening around you slowly appear as you progress through the rooms.
Room 2 has a chemical mixing puzzle to clear a blocked elevator shaft. Information for the chemical is found in a tape recorder in the environment.
Each room has a different theme. Room 1 is an arrival bay, room 2(this picture) is a surgical lab, and room 3 is the main reactor access room.
Influences from an unknown alien race become prominent in room 2.
Room 3 begins to show the destruction caused by the aliens. Collapsed ceilings, leaking vents, and a dead body.
The story is mainly told through the environment, and recorded audio logs. The last survivor camped out near the reactor before being killed. His cot, supplies, and body are found and influence a puzzle in room 3. The reactor is behind that door.
The final area is the main reactor room. In a shout-out to our favorite Halo games, the player must destroy the reactor, causing the destruction of the space station.
Shatterpoint: First Encounter Playthrough
Shatterpoint: First Encounter
Collaborative group project for creating a playable virtual reality escape room inspired by an existing video game or movie franchise. Our group choose Halo for inspiration, and created a Sci-Fi horror escape room that lasts about 30 minutes. Group work was extremely important for this project. With 4.5 weeks of iteration/design/ concept work, and 4.5 weeks of production efficient workflows and time management was crucial. Play-testing was also vital to the project, and early builds were shown at University of Idaho events Vandal Overnight and the Virtual Technology and Design Expo.
